Council elects Rodenberg as mayor pro tem
Summary

At its Jan. 27 meeting the Gig Harbor City Council elected Council member Rodenberg as mayor pro tempore. Council member Henderson nominated Rodenberg; council closed nominations and elected him by voice vote with no opposition.
Why it matters: The mayor pro tem chairs council meetings when the mayor is absent and performs mayoral duties if the mayor temporarily cannot serve. The selection is an internal council designation made at the second January meeting each year, per municipal practice.
City Clerk Stecker explained the role and the process, including that the mayor pro tem serves from the council membership and acts as chair of meetings in the mayor’s absence. Council confirmed Rodenberg by general assent after a single nomination and no other nominations were offered.
Ending: Rodenberg will serve as mayor pro tem until the council’s next annual election of the pro tem or until changed by council action.
