Council member Likens announced she will resign from the Gig Harbor City Council effective Jan. 15, 2025, saying a family relocation will put her outside city limits and make her ineligible to continue serving.
“ It is with a sad heart that tonight I am announcing my resignation from the Gig Harbor City Council effective 01/15/2025,” Council member Likens said during the Jan. 13 meeting. She told the council that the move is prompted by a family opportunity and that she is grateful for the chance to serve.
The announcement came during the council reports segment. Several colleagues offered brief tributes. Council member Wouk thanked Likens for her “view, intelligence and background,” and other members expressed appreciation for her contributions to city work over the past years.
The council did not take a formal vote on the resignation during the meeting. City staff will follow procedures in the municipal code for filling a vacancy created by a council member who no longer resides within the city limits.
Looking ahead, the council will post related notices and follow its established appointment/selection processes for midterm vacancies, as directed by staff and city rules.
