Fiber company says construction will start within days to serve 1,700 Chehalis homes

A company representative briefed the City Council on Jan. 27 about an imminent fiber expansion that will build fiber‑to‑the‑home service to roughly 1,700 addresses in Chehalis.
Amanda (company representative) told the council the project would begin locating and placing crews “within 48 hours” and that residents can visit the company website to pre‑order service and view availability at their address. She said the build covers neighborhoods along Jackson Highway, Market and Cascade and a mix of aerial and buried construction will be used; buried segments are more expensive, she noted.
Amanda described the service as fiber all the way to the customer premise (fiber‑to‑the‑home). She explained customers will receive an ONT and Wi‑Fi access inside the home and that the company currently offers voice services and plans to evaluate TV service in the future. She said some early customers have already pre‑signed for service and the company is coordinating permit approvals with the city.
Mayor and councilors asked about the route, whether the work would cross I‑5, the mix of aerial vs. underground construction, and how the new fiber compared with existing networks that use fiber to neighborhood nodes and coax or copper for the last segment. Amanda said the new build is fiber all the way to the home (not fiber to a node). She asked the council to continue processing permits and thanked staff for keeping approvals moving.
Why it matters: the build brings another high‑capacity broadband option to Chehalis households and commercial customers and signals private investment in local digital infrastructure. The company advised residents to expect installation lead times of several weeks after pre‑ordering and said crews would place door tags and notify neighborhoods in advance of construction.
