A staff member reported the fire marshal has identified the building capacity at 63 people (45 in the large side and 18 in the small side) and noted the kitchen area will need modifications to meet state and fire codes; specifically, a commercial cooking area requires a hood system. "You cannot have a stove without a hood," the staff member said. The staff member credited Facilities/streets staffer Harry for advancing the rehab work and said the town will add emergency exit lighting, fire extinguishers and an address on the building as part of the compliance work.
Timing and next steps
- Contracting and design: Staff will obtain quotes for an exterior porch/cover that fits required clearances; preliminary review found a low soffit in one recessed doorway that prevents some porch designs. - Public opening: Staff said final public-use timing depends on completing required code work and on establishing fee schedules. A ribbon-cutting or grand-opening was discussed for a later meeting once staff confirm completion and fees.
Ending: Staff will circulate photos of the rehab work and provide cost/quote estimates for exterior improvements at a future CRA meeting.
