Senate adopts change to reporting by prosecuting attorneys and legislative auditor (Senate Bill 18)
Summary
The Senate adopted an amendment and passed Senate Bill 18, which changes Arkansas law so that prosecuting attorneys (rather than duplicative prosecuting-attorney and attorney-general reports) make certain reports of improper or illegal practices to the legislative auditor.
Senate Bill 18, as amended and concurred in on the floor, was adopted by the Senate and enrolled for transmittal. Senator Wallace, sponsor of the bill, told the chamber the measure removes duplicative reporting requirements and allows prosecuting attorneys to make the required reports without a parallel filing from the attorney general.
Wallace said the bill “allows just the prosecuting attorneys to make the report” and eliminates a redundant requirement for the prosecuting attorneys and the attorney general to file duplicate reports. The amendment being considered on the floor was a housekeeping change to add a house sponsor; senators adopted that amendment by voice vote before the roll call.
The Senate ordered a roll call and recorded a vote of 34 yeas, 0 nays; the clerk enrolled the bill and it was transmitted to the governor’s enrollment process. Senator Wallace answered questions when asked and closed debate before the recorded vote.
