Recreation updates: summer camp registration, spring leagues, MLK Park renovation and travel basketball

Norristown recreation staff on Tuesday provided program updates including open registration for summer camp, plans for a spring sports league and the launch of a travel basketball program for grades 3–8.
The recreation director said registration for summer camp and teen camp is open and that the department is switching to an online registration platform (RecDesk) with full-payment at registration to reduce prior administrative problems. The Norristown Recreation Spring League will run April 28–June 5 with evaluations beginning April 7 for age groups 5–16.
Staff said they will restart popular in-house programs such as line dancing (Fridays) and bingo (Thursdays). The department also plans a Summer Concert Series and movie nights in partnership with Rotation Productions. A new travel basketball offering, in collaboration with local coaches, will field boys’ and girls’ teams in grades 3–8 with tryouts and evaluations in April.
The director described a capital-improvement project at MLK Park funded in part by a donation from the Suttell family; staff said repairs and new play equipment have been completed and the park reopened. Councilmembers welcomed the travel-basketball revival and thanked the Suttell family for the MLK Park contribution. No formal council action was required.
