Wyomina Park year‑round pilot shows midyear gains in ELA and attendance, district weighs intersession costs
Summary
District staff reported midyear proficiency gains and improved attendance at Wynne/Wyomina Park Elementary under a five‑year nontraditional (year‑round) calendar pilot. Staff flagged improved PM1-to-PM2 results in ELA and math, lower office referrals, higher year‑to‑date attendance and the costs and low participation rates for intersession days.
Marion County staff and Wyomina Park Elementary leaders reported midyear assessment, attendance and discipline trends Thursday that the district said show early promise for the school’s five‑year year‑round (nontraditional) calendar pilot.
Mr. Frazier presented PM1-to-PM2 comparisons showing gains in English language arts and in math for grades 3–5. For ELA, the district cited cohort and year-to-year comparisons: in 2023–24 the school’s overall grade‑3–5 proficiency moved from 12% at PM1 to 20% at PM2; in 2024–25 the comparable cohort began PM1 at 15% and rose to 25% at PM2. Frazier said similar though smaller gains appeared in math across cohorts; he and staff said continued work with lowest‑quartile students and focused action plans could translate those interim gains into stronger PM3 and end‑of‑year results.
