The owner of Blossom at Blue's Greenhouse attended the Planning Commission meeting to ask whether the commission would object to a zoning change to permit four additional greenhouse buildings.
Dave, City planning staff, told the commission that the parcel is currently zoned R‑2 and the expansion would require a rezoning before the use would be allowed. "So we're not here to take action on this tonight," Dave said, adding that the owner wanted a sense of whether there would be significant pushback before ordering buildings that take months to deliver.
Commissioners inspected the site context and noted an electrical substation to the north and other industrial uses nearby. One commissioner said the surrounding zoning would allow the proposed use and that rezoning appears to be a correction of a mapping error: "It needs to be properly zoned. Oversight on our part, we need to get it fixed, but I don't see why we would want to prohibit a business from expanding."
No formal petition had been filed at the time of the meeting. Commissioners agreed to place the matter on the next meeting agenda for formal consideration; staff reiterated that any rezoning must follow the city's petition and ordinance process and ultimately be acted on by City Council.
Ending
The commission did not take a formal vote; staff will schedule the rezoning application as an agenda item for a future meeting and will advise the owner about the petition process.
