Guthrie honors four firefighters for January rescue at Ken Drive home

The rescue team—Lieutenant Rupert and firefighters Nettles, Walker and Cunningham—entered a home where fire and smoke were spreading and conducted a rapid victim search, Fairless said. "The act of rescuing a living fire victim is known as making a grab in the fire service. It exemplifies the highest standard of dedication tradition of heroism in the fire service," Fairless told the council as he presented commendations.
Fairless said crews knocked down the fire and removed the trapped, semi‑conscious victim; the person was handed off to waiting emergency crews outside. The presentation recognized the firefighters’ actions as an example of the department’s commitment to saving lives.
Council members thanked the crew during the meeting; no formal vote was required for the presentation.
The recognition came during the council’s regular meeting, which also included routine business and several land‑use and procurement items discussed and voted on by the body.
