Board hears wastewater treatment updates, lift station repair and lab audit prep

Garski said staff are preparing for laboratory audits and reviewing procedures across the lab to ensure consistency ahead of the inspection.
Garski reported the city received four bids for sewer cleaning and televising this year; the low bid came from Speedy at $20,009.29 to cover about 22,310 feet—work that will start near the river and proceed south toward Beacon Street. He noted close pricing among several bidders and that the 2025 budget set aside $42,000 for the program.
The director described a recent repair at a satellite lift station where aggregate had damaged an impeller and the impeller was replaced. Crews set a bypass, cleaned the lift station interior to remove lodged material and discovered deterioration of concrete near pump seating areas. Garski said pumps are operating well after the repair and the staff plans to re-inspect the station at the next scheduled motor oil change in about three months to assess further deterioration and consider sealing or lining options.
Garski also reported the city is awaiting attorney contact about a digester completion by an outside firm and that consultant Donahue continues work on a Preliminary Compliance Alternatives Plan intended to guide the city toward meeting 2029 regulatory requirements.
