New Canaan planning commission introduces two new alternate members

At the Jan. 23 special meeting, the New Canaan Planning and Zoning Commission welcomed two recently appointed alternate commissioners, architect Megan Mengsting and longtime local business owner Bill Pratt, who briefly introduced their backgrounds and reasons for volunteering.
The New Canaan Planning and Zoning Commission used the first part of its Jan. 23 special meeting to introduce two recently appointed alternate commissioners.
Megan Mengsting said she is a licensed architect who moved from Michigan, worked in development and currently does construction project management. "I've thought for a long time that I wanted to kind of give back to the built environment in some way," Mengsting said during a brief introduction.
Bill Pratt, a New Canaan resident since 1994 who owns a small business in Norwalk, described leading the Country Club and New Canaan project from February 2014 to February 2020 and said that experience sparked his interest in planning and zoning. "When I was asked if I would be interested in this, I raised my hand. So here I am, and thank you for having me," Pratt said.
Krista Nielsen, the commission secretary and acting chair for the meeting, thanked both volunteers and asked them to keep participating in trainings and meetings as alternates are seated. The introductions were part of housekeeping before the UConn CLEAR training that followed.
Ending: Both alternates took part in the evening's training session; no formal votes or assignments were made during these introductions.
