Facilities director: steel is up at Health Services Building; public art and solar study moving forward

Tony Baron, facilities management director for Johnson County, told the Public Building Commission on Feb. 6 that construction steel is going up at the county’s Health Services Building and that staff are finalizing the project’s public art.
“We have our steel going up right now, so you'll see it start to come out of the ground,” Baron said. He added the county has “our public art also as part of that project” and that it has been coordinated alongside the Human Services Building work.
Baron also said the county is studying photovoltaic options for the project. “We are in the process of exploring our photovoltaics in that, solar panels and that, and we feel really good about where we're going in that direction with the study that we have in place,” he said, adding that more information will come back to the commission.
Baron’s presentation was brief; commissioners thanked him and invited questions but moved on to other agenda items. The project was referenced later in the meeting during contract and scheduling items related to the Health Services Building.
