Johnson County approves GMP amendment with McCownGordon for Health Services Building

The Johnson County Public Building Commission voted 7-0 on Feb. 6 to authorize Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) contract amendment No. 1 with McCownGordon Construction Company for the new Health Services Building project. Commissioner Jeff Myers made the motion; Commissioner Allenbrand seconded it.

The motion, read into the record by Myers, described the amendment “in amount of 67,000,000 to $727,663 for a total contract amount not to exceed $67,907,663 per request for proposal RFP number 2020Four-seventeen.” The commission approved the motion without discussion and recorded seven votes in favor.

During the meeting, Commissioner Brewer raised a procedural question about contract phases, noting that members and residents may find the sequence of pre-construction (preparation) and construction contracts unclear. Brewer recommended the county make the “pre” and construction contract phases explicit in background materials so board members and the public better understand how amendments fit into the overall contract arc. Facilities Management Director Tony Baron acknowledged the question and stood for any technical follow-up.

The recorded roll call after the motion showed Commissioners Fast, Myers, Brewer, Hanslick, Ashcraft, Allenbrand and Chairman Kelly voting yes. The commission did not record any no votes or abstentions on the GMP motion.

The amendment references RFP number spoken in the meeting as “RFP number 2020Four-seventeen.” The motion and the figures quoted were entered into the record as read and voted on; the transcripted numeric phrasing contains wording that could not be independently verified in the meeting record.
