Fremont County commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2025-03, a FY2024–2025 budget amendment allocating $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for purchase and initial repairs to a recently purchased coroner’s building.
County staff told commissioners the county paid roughly $450,000 to acquire the building and requested an additional $50,000 to cover minor repairs and project costs such as a sally port and interior wall work identified during inspection. The resolution was moved and seconded and the motion passed by voice vote.
Finance and facilities staff said the project has been placed under the commission’s oversight rather than the coroner’s office; Mike Meeker and his department will oversee bids and construction management. Commissioners were told additional work beyond the $500,000 should be pursued through grant funding.
At the meeting staff also said the county insured the building and related projects (the election building and two search-and-rescue buildings) and planned to finalize contents coverage in coordination with the sheriff and search-and-rescue teams.
