The Elko County School District board granted staff permission to solicit bids to replace the Old Central office roof after hearing a facilities update that district roofs are reaching end of life.
District facilities staff told trustees Old Central’s roof is “completely failed” and estimated preliminary engineering and design work at about $250,000. The facilities director said the district has many roofs approaching the end of their lifecycle and identified the Wells High School gym as a likely future project (an encapsulation option estimated at roughly $500,000). Trustees moved to authorize going out to bid for the Old Central roof replacement and approved the motion by voice vote.
Facilities staff said roofing work would be prioritized with available capital funds and that other planned projects (boiler replacements, HVAC upgrades and school safety projects) remain on the capital agenda.
