Maury County honors students with perfect test scores; local business awards gift cards

The Maury County Board of Education recognized students from multiple schools Tuesday evening for earning perfect scores on district or state assessments, and a local business owner offered on-the-spot gift cards to the honorees.
School Board member Stacy called the recognition a rare chance to celebrate "perfection" in student scores, then read names by school and subject. Students from Baker Elementary, Battle Creek Middle School, Cox Middle School, Hampshire Unit School, Mount Pleasant Elementary and Middle schools, Santa Fe Unit, Spring Hill Middle, Whitthorn Middle, Wright Elementary and others were named for perfect scores in subjects including math, science, social studies and algebra.
Katrina Tosh, owner of the Nutrition Hub in Columbia, gave each student a $10 gift card on the spot, saying, "I want to give each 1 of you kids a $10 gift card to the store." Board members and administrators invited all recipients to gather for a group photo after the certificate presentation.
Board staff thanked teachers, administrators, teacher assistants, cafeteria staff and bus drivers for their roles in helping students reach achievement milestones. Central office staff member Ventura announced the Teacher of the Year banquet would be Thursday at Central High School at 6 p.m.
The recognition portion of the meeting concluded before the public-delegation and policy items that followed.
