The Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Common Council initiate the street‑vacation process for approximately 750 feet of Wingate east of Stockhausen Lane. The request, put forward by the Department of Community Development to facilitate a WE Energies redevelopment, would remove that western portion of public right‑of‑way and create a cul‑de‑sac bulb for the remaining street.
Staff said the sanitary sewer and storm sewer serving the western area would become private and that the water main would be terminated at the new cul‑de‑sac end. The recommendation from the Planning Commission initiates the city’s street vacation process and allows staff to prepare a preliminary resolution and required notices for Common Council consideration.
Commissioners spoke in favor of the vacation, noting limited existing street use and anticipated public and private benefits from the WE Energies project. The motion to recommend the street vacation to the Common Council passed on a voice vote.
