Council keeps City Organization committee, appoints Gorman and Endicott to lead blight discussion

Council members discussed using the committee to host a series of monthly conversations about local blight — its causes, public‑safety and economic impacts, and possible policy tools — and to invite city staff, realtors, public‑safety personnel and community members to participate. The council indicated the sessions would be exploratory and would produce narrative summaries and potential next steps for the council to consider.
Council consensus was reached to keep the committee and to seat Councilmember Gorman and Mayor Endicott on it; a roll‑call vote to affirm the appointments was recorded as five ayes and no no votes. The council noted the committee would not place an excessive new burden on staff and that community engagement would be part of the process.
Councilmembers also discussed that some blight issues will involve legal or administrative constraints and that follow‑up work may include outreach to property owners and interagency coordination. Specific enforcement actions, funding allocations or ordinance changes were not adopted at the Feb. 5 meeting; the decision was to use the committee to develop options for future council consideration.
