Millersville students describe hands-on social work training, international internship

Student 3, a Millersville University School of Social Work student, said they had observed a local drug and alcohol court “to just observe what is going on in there, to know how social work is being practiced in the community.”
Students described an on-campus training room used to record or observe mock therapy sessions and provide feedback. “We had a really cool room where you could go in and record or someone could be watching you do a therapy session and kind of give you feedback,” Student 2 said, calling the experience “really hands on.”
One student described an accelerated bachelor’s-to-master’s pathway that allowed undergraduates to take graduate courses before formal admission to a master’s program. Student 2 said the department prepared students “not just knowing about, you know, your social work values and how you're supposed to act ethically, but also as a person, you're prepared quite a lot.”
