Reverend Bob told the Daytona Beach Shores City Commission that Daytona Beach Drive‑In Christian Church paid off a $1,750,000 mortgage used to build its new Friendship Hall, and he thanked the city and residents for their support.
"We borrowed $1,750,000 to build that building and, we paid that off in late December," Reverend Bob said. He added the mortgage payment had been $10,000 a month and that the congregation had pledged to make that payment for 25 years but was able to pay extra principal to retire the debt in five years.
Madam Mayor congratulated Reverend Bob and noted the church’s partnership with the city during the COVID pandemic. Reverend Bob described recurring community events hosted by the church, including free family movie nights in June or July featuring family films and other activities for children. He said the church’s celebration of paying off the mortgage drew strong local support.
The remarks were part of opening comments at the commission meeting and did not include any formal city action, funding commitment or vote in the transcript. No details about the loan source, lenders, grant funding or any city financial contribution were provided in the meeting record.
