Board recognizes Launching Pad middle-school drama club ahead of Beetlejuice Jr. run

The Ballston Spa Central School District Board of Education on Feb. 3 recognized Launching Pad, the middle-school drama club, and welcomed teacher Joe Shaver and the cast ahead of this weekend’s production of Beetlejuice Junior.
“I’m Joe Shaver. I’m an English teacher here at the middle school. And for the last, 23-ish years or so, I've been working with Launching Pad… We are really, really excited to present Beetlejuice Junior,” Shaver said, and thanked staff who stepped into expanded roles for the production.
Students described Launching Pad as a welcoming after-school community. Anna Cepulewicz said, “Launching Pad isn't just a club that I go to after school. It's a family full of amazing talented people who make anyone and everyone feel like they belong.” Isabella Oblisky told the board Launching Pad “allows students to be fun and creative and show what they can do.”
The presenter listed performance dates as Feb. 6–9, with the closing show on Feb. 9. Joe Shaver said the group had complimentary tickets for board members as a courtesy, and board members encouraged the public to attend. Several board members praised the students’ public-speaking skills and theatrical work.
The recognition segment concluded with a brief photo opportunity and members of the cast and crew leaving complimentary tickets with the board.
