The Board of Public Works and Utilities approved $59,240 in cleaning and repairs for municipal well No. 8 after a contractor inspection found the pump bowl and screen were "thinned out" and had holes, and the motor required service.
Staff presented inspection photos and the municipal well contractor's proposal, and said the work exceeded prior estimates. "It was it's, thinned out, got holes. It's shot. That's a $17,200 item," staff member Jared Holter said of the pump bowl and screen assembly. Holter added that the motor, which was installed in February 2006 and had not been pulled previously, required repairs costing about $6,000.
Holter said the total estimate for parts and work came to $59,240 and that the contractor was authorized to order the bowl assembly, column pipe and other necessary parts. The board voted to approve the well cleaning and inspection work and associated repairs; Mayor Smith moved the motion and Alder Dan Stevens seconded.
Staff characterized the total as within expected costs for these items. No timeline for returning the well to service was provided at the meeting, but staff noted they had authorized ordering the replacement parts to proceed.
