House recognizes Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office for role in interstate theft probe

Representative Elmer called attention to the department’s role and asked colleagues to join him in recognizing its work. “I would like to recognize the incredible efforts of our Yamhill County Sheriff’s Department,” he said on the House floor.
According to Elmer’s remarks, suspects had targeted homeowners in New Jersey and Massachusetts, making off with more than $100,000 in designer goods before traveling across the country. The group allegedly rented an Airbnb in Carlton, Oregon, where law enforcement located them; a Yamhill County K‑9 named Veil and handler Deputy Colton Walker assisted Oregon State Police in detaining four subjects. Sergeant Hare was identified during the recognition as the department’s canine supervisor.
Elmer said the Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office was acknowledged by Oregon State Police and the FBI for “quick thinking, professionalism, and collaboration with partner agencies.” The floor recognition did not include formal action or legislative measures tied to the investigation.
The House then returned to routine business and the reading of messages and bills.
