Bulloch County outlines plan to assume 5-mile fire district after Statesboro agreement ends

Bulloch County officials and the county fire chief told residents Tuesday that the county has a plan to assume fire protection in the 5-mile district after Commissioners voted in December to end the fire-service agreement with the City of Statesboro.
County Fire Chief Ben Tapley said the county will add personnel, build stations inside the former 5-mile district and staff engines to mirror the level of service provided by Statesboro. “We will add the stations in the 5 Mile District come July 1. We’re gonna have 26 people on duty every day,” Tapley said, adding the county plans to place two engine companies and a ladder company in the district and has hired a battalion chief.
