Fairmont Community Center reports strong early use; toddler time and rentals active

Staff said the facility has been made available to local basketball teams for practice because of limited gym space elsewhere; practices are booked through March, the end of the basketball season. Weekend rentals are being scheduled into April. Staff said users appreciate the space’s features; recent minor repairs (a corrected curtain and a repaired ceiling) have improved the facility’s flexibility, including the ability to separate the gym with a curtain for dual uses.
Staff are also exploring offering community-education classes (CPR, self-defense) at Fairmont and at Roosevelt to expand program access across neighborhoods. Volunteers and neighborhood advocates have been active in promoting the center; staff highlighted a resident, Tammy Trace, as a frequent volunteer and local promoter.
Board members asked whether programming at Fairmont overlaps with offerings at Roosevelt; staff said Roosevelt remains the larger facility with broader programming capacity, and Fairmont will focus on rentals, family offerings and neighborhood‑driven classes.
Staff asked the advisory board for continued input on programs and suggested sites for a future parks tour so staff can tailor updates and demonstrations to board priorities.
