Davenport committee reallocates roughly $40,000 in CDBG funds, holds Ward 5 liquor-license requests for more review

At its Jan. 22, 2025 Committee of the Whole meeting, the Davenport City Council advanced a package of routine and substantive items to the consent agenda and approved reprogramming unspent Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds after two agencies returned part of their awards. Council members also left liquor-license applications for the Fifth Ward on the discussion list pending a staff memorandum and additional review.

The council authorized reallocating roughly $40,000 in CDBG funding that became available when two recipients — the Boys & Girls Club and an organization identified in the meeting transcript as Common Court — declined or returned part of their awards. "They weren't able to use all the funds, and so they've withdrawn from this year's application. That freed up roughly $40,000 which was voted on by the Citizens Advisory Committee to reapportion to four other agencies," said Bruce Berger, Director of Community and Economic Development.
