Parks staff outline budget workshops and upcoming capital projects

Parks staff told the advisory board that Davenport City Council will hold two budget workshops in February: an operating budget session on Feb. 1 and a capital-improvement program (CIP) session on Feb. 8. Staff said both workshops are open to the public as work sessions but will not include public comment.
Chad (Parks staff) reported the Duck Creek tennis and pickleball improvements are set to go out for bid, with construction likely scheduled for fall to avoid peak court use. He said the Main Street Landing project has been bid and awarded, and a preconstruction meeting is scheduled at the end of the month. The eMICE adaptive and inclusive playground contract was awarded and its preconstruction meeting is also expected later this month; construction on that playground is planned for spring.
Staff emphasized that final scheduling will depend on bids, contractor availability and seasonal considerations. Staff also reported that they have completed budget requests and are awaiting council review during the February workshops.
No formal votes were taken on these projects during the advisory-board meeting; staff asked board members to attend the public workshops if they wish to observe budget discussions.
