Committee renames planned legislative office building for Sonny Perdue after unanimous amendment and approval

The Senate Rules Committee on Thursday unanimously approved Senate Resolution 95 to name the legislative office complex under construction after Sonny Perdue, with a committee amendment changing the word “center” to “building.”
Senator Dolzall, sponsor of SR 95, told the committee the resolution would “name the legislative Office complex that is currently under construction after Sonny Perdue.” Dolzall reviewed Perdue’s public service, noting his state legislative service beginning in 1991, two terms as Georgia governor (2003–2011), and service as U.S. Secretary of Agriculture from 2017 to 2021; Dolzall also noted Perdue’s appointment as chancellor of the state university system.
A friendly amendment offered during discussion replaced the word “center” with “building” on lines 2 and 28 of the draft. Senator Dolezal moved the amendment and Senator Albers seconded; the committee approved the amendment unanimously. Senator Robertson moved SR 95 as amended, Senator Ginn seconded, and the committee then approved the resolution unanimously.
No substantive policy changes beyond the naming were made in committee. The committee record shows the amendment succeeded on a unanimous voice vote and the resolution advanced from rules without recorded opposition.
