Council cancels Feb. 18 meeting; schedules special legislative workshop and committee meetings

The Goldendale City Council on Feb. 3 voted to cancel its regular Feb. 18 meeting because the mayor, the city administrator and four council members will attend the City Action Days conference in Olympia. Councilmember (unnamed) moved to cancel the meeting and the motion passed on a voice vote.
Council members scheduled a special workshop for Monday, Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. to review state legislation and set priorities for meetings with local legislators. The council also set several committee meetings for Tuesday, Feb. 11: a public works committee meeting at 4:00 p.m., an ordinance committee meeting at 5:30 p.m., and a separate workshop format for legislative review to be advertised as required.
City Administrator Sandy Wells said canceled regular meetings have historically still resulted in members receiving their standard monthly pay, but she said she would confirm the ordinance language and report back. Councilmembers asked that staff circulate the relevant bills in advance and requested that councilors review materials before the Feb. 10 workshop to keep the meeting efficient.
During the scheduling discussion councilmembers debated whether to hold a special meeting later in February if urgent business arose; staff said a special meeting could be called if necessary. The council also agreed to coordinate with the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) materials and prepare letters of support or opposition for selected bills in advance of legislative meetings.
