City opens invitations for trash collection bids; contract to begin April 1

Sunbury staff reported on Feb. 5 that the city is out to bid for its next residential trash collection contract, with bids scheduled to be opened on Feb. 14 and a contract scheduled to begin April 1.
Staff said the procurement is an invitation for bids (IFB) with a lowest‑and‑best award criterion; staff has reached out to the current hauler (Local Waste) and other regional carriers and hopes to receive multiple bids. Because the current contract expires in March and the IFB process produces a straightforward price‑driven award, staff told the committee the schedule is tight and the finance committee may receive an interim report once bids are opened.
Staff will bring results back to the committee and to the finance committee, and the city intends to award the contract to the lowest responsive, responsible bidder under the IFB terms. No award was made at the Feb. 5 meeting.
