York County commissioners on Feb. 5 held a public hearing on Ordinance 2025-1, a proposed amendment to the York County Code (Chapter 3 25, Article 2) that would change the compensation payable to elected tax collectors countywide except in York City, effective Jan. 1, 2026. The county solicitor said the ordinance had been advertised and asked whether anyone wished to testify; no one did.
The hearing, opened by the county solicitor, produced no public comment and was returned to the commissioners for action. A commissioner moved to pull two tax-related agenda items — listed as items 23 and 25 — saying the motions "may lack specificity" and asking that they be considered at a future meeting. The motion to pull items 23 and 25 passed during the meeting's omnibus votes.
After removing items 23 and 25, the board voted to approve the remaining agenda items (listed as items 1 through 29 on the published agenda). The commissioners specifically noted approval of item 15 and thanked Tim Tate for his service on the Susquehanna Area Regional Authority Board; the board said a new representative, identified only as James, will take that seat.
On related business the board's salary board approved the minutes of the Jan. 22, 2025, salary board meeting and later approved a motion to set position salaries, hours and benefits as presented. One commissioner abstained from the latter vote, saying they "did not have time to review" several items and were therefore abstaining to preserve due diligence.
There was no executive session reported during this meeting, and no public testimony on the ordinance or the pulled items. The board adjourned shortly after completing the listed votes.
