Senate adopts recognition resolutions and reads dozens of bills for first reference

On Feb. 4 the Senate adopted resolutions honoring firefighters, Girl Scouts and Rosa Parks and the secretary read many Senate bills for first reading and referral; the Rules committee reported one committee recommendation (SB 6) as passed by committee substitute.
The Georgia Senate on Tuesday adopted a series of recognition resolutions and completed first readings and referrals for numerous bills.
Resolutions adopted included Senate Resolution 19 recognizing Feb. 4, 2025, as Firefighters Recognition Day at the State Capitol and a resolution recognizing Feb. 6, 2025, as Girl Scout Day at the State Capitol. A separate resolution honored Rosa Parks and noted observances planned at the Capitol.
Procedure: The chair asked if there was objection to adoption of each resolution; the chair “heard none, and the resolution is adopted,” and senators offered remarks to recognize service members and guests. Fire service leaders addressed the chamber following adoption of the firefighters’ resolution.
Bills read for first reference: The secretary read dozens of Senate bills for first reading and referral, including (as read into the record) Senate bills 70 through 86 (various sponsors) covering topics ranging from local government authorities and homestead exemptions to amendments to tax and criminal code provisions. The secretary also read additional bills and resolutions set for second reading and committee referral; a complete list of bill numbers and sponsoring districts was presented on the floor.
Committee report: The secretary reported the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services had considered legislation and recommended that Senate Bill 6 be reported “do pass by committee substitute.” The report identified Senator Watson of the First District as the committee chairman.
Ending: The Senate adjourned until Wednesday at 10 a.m.; members were reminded of committee meetings scheduled that afternoon.
