The mayor (name not specified) announced that Diageo, a global beverage-alcohol company, has committed $412,000,000 in capital investment to build a 360,000-square-foot distribution plant in Montgomery, the mayor said during a council work session.
The mayor said the project will create more than 100 full-time, high-quality jobs and approximately 750 construction jobs during the build-out. "Diageo's investment reinforces the crucial part of our region plays in logistics, manufacturing, and supply chain infrastructure within the Southeast," he said, adding that the city is working with "the chamber, the county, and other partners" on the project.
The mayor also told the work session that Montgomery attracted $1,100,000,000 in capital investments in 2024 and said the city expects continued business growth into 2025.
Separately, the mayor announced a change to the deadline for business-license renewals: the city extended the renewal deadline without penalty to Feb. 21. He said tax accounts must be current and paid in full before a renewal will be issued.
The transcript records no formal council vote related to the Diageo announcement or the license-deadline change during this meeting.
