Envision Needham Center consultants to hold open house and guided walks Feb. 6–8

Consultants engaged for the Envision Needham Center project, together with Town staff and DPW members, will present concept materials at an open house and conduct guided walking tours on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Saturday, Feb. 8, organizers told the Planning Board.
The open house is scheduled for Feb. 6 from 5–6 p.m. at Town Hall; walking tours will be held Feb. 8 in three sessions (11 a.m.–12 p.m., 1 p.m.–2 p.m., and 3 p.m.–4 p.m.). The project team has identified roughly 14 stops along Great Plain Avenue (Pickering to Linden) and adjacent areas where staff and consultants will ask participants about safety, lighting, crosswalks, bike facilities and pedestrian experience.
Organizers said QR codes will be posted at stops so members of the public who cannot attend guided tours can submit comments and a short questionnaire from the field. The effort will inform possible pilot treatments — for example, lane reductions, protected bike lanes, or relocated on‑street parking — that could be trialed with temporary paint and barriers prior to permanent design work and grant applications (including Chapter 90 funds).
Planning Board members welcomed the outreach and said the multiple time slots (including an evening session) aim to capture different user experiences, including pedestrian conditions at dusk. The project will proceed with further design work and pilot testing if the public response supports proposed changes.
