GALT CITY — The Galt City Council on Monday approved routine consent items and the city treasurer—s December report, confirmed multiple commission appointments and voted 5-0 to authorize sending up to five council members to the Sacramento Metro Chamber—s Cap to Cap federal advocacy conference in May.
The votes came during a regularly scheduled council meeting in February and followed public comment and staff presentations. The council recorded unanimous roll-call approvals on the consent calendar, the treasurer—s report and the Cap to Cap travel authorization.
The consent calendar included two items: receipt and filing of warrants through Jan. 23, 2025, and the minutes of the council—s Jan. 1, 2025 meeting. Council approved the minutes as amended to note a planning commission appointment, and then approved the warrants after councilmember questions about a large contractor payment. Councilmember Reid asked about check 234405, described in the warrants as paid to George Reed, Inc., for "just over $1,200,000." City staff later told council the C Street project contractor, George Reed, had been paid roughly $3,800,000 to date, with about $2,000,000 remaining unpaid on the project.
Council next took up the treasurer—s report for December 2024. City Treasurer Sean Farrell summarized investment performance and interest earnings, telling the council the city had earned $2,685,000 in interest through the first six months of the fiscal year and that his estimate for total interest earned by year-end was about $4,400,000. Council voted 5-0 to accept the treasurer—s report.
On the Cap to Cap conference, Interim Community Development Director Amy Mendez briefed council that the Sacramento Metro Chamber—s program in Washington, D.C., runs May 3-7 and that the approximate cost per attendee is $5,000, covering registration, hotel and airfare. After discussion about the value of developing federal relationships, the mayor moved to authorize a delegation of up to five council members to attend; Vice Mayor Sandhu seconded the motion and the council approved it, 5-0.
Council also confirmed several appointments to local commissions and made multiple council assignments to regional boards and committees. City Clerk Tina Hubert listed appointments to the Beautification Committee, Commission on Aging, Galt Youth Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, Planning Commission and others; later in the meeting council approved a package of regional board assignments by roll call, 5-0.
The meeting closed with staff reports on upcoming traffic impacts and community outreach: a lane shift on Carillion Street scheduled for Feb. 10-24 and a reminder that sandbags are available at Public Works for residents. Staff also said the city will send a push notification via the Galt Connect app about the Carillion lane shift.
