Planning Director Liz reported to the Planning Commission on Jan. 22 that the Puget Sound Regional Council (PSRC) has issued a draft certification review letter for Burien’s recently adopted comprehensive plan updates.
Liz said PSRC gave the city a positive, largely favorable draft review that clears the transportation provisions for certification—an outcome staff said will allow Burien to pursue transportation funding tied to the certified plan. The director said PSRC asked for a few small clarifications that staff may address in future updates.
Liz also updated the commission on staffing: the city is recruiting for an assistant planner and a new building official started the week of the meeting.
"They gave us the big thumbs up," Liz said of PSRC’s draft response. She told commissioners staff will share the draft certification letter and proposed responses with the commission and noted the certification is an important step for project funding and plan implementation.
