Commission discusses art for the Trailhead ‘Rotary Room’; plans student rotation and photography options

The Parks and Arts Commission discussed options for artwork in the Rotary Room at the Trailhead building and agreed to pursue a rotating display that could include student work and photography.
Commissioners described the Rotary Room as a multiuse space for business meetings, wedding receptions and other events, and said artwork should be fairly minimalist so it does not distract from events. Staff recommended roughly four larger pieces for the room and suggested an annual rotation similar to the hallway display currently at the Trailhead.
Mikhail, a Parks and Arts staff member, reported he had met with Ridgeline High School art instructors previously and suggested the commission meet the instructors at the site to determine size and arrangement. A student who spoke to the commission said Ridgeline has multiple photography and videography classes and identified a local professional photographer, Roy Powell, who has worked with the school and might help with an initial year’s images.
Commissioners asked staff to contact the art instructor and to return in March with a more detailed plan, including recommended dimensions and whether the project would be student-produced, professionally produced, or a mix. The commission also discussed rotating the existing hallway pieces into the Rotary Room if larger work is not immediately available and scheduling an on-site meeting with instructors to pin down dimensions.
Ending: Staff will email Ridgeline’s instructor contact information to commissioners, arrange an on-site meeting, and put a formal proposal on the March agenda. No funding decision was made at this meeting.
