The Medical Lake City Council voted unanimously Feb. 4 to approve a purchase-and-sale agreement for 316 West Brooks, a historic train depot built about 1900.
City officials said the purchase is intended to preserve a building identified as one of the city’s most historically significant structures and to explore reuse options, including a meeting hall, short-term rental or museum.
Staff member Sonny, summarizing executive-session discussion, said the agreement includes a disclosure agreement and feasibility contingency; legal counsel reviewed the documents and staff will pursue required steps to complete the transaction. Council President called for the motion, which was moved and seconded; the council voted in favor and the resolution passed as introduced.
Council members asked that staff return with a status update at the next meeting because of a “pretty fast timeline” for closing and next steps. Staff indicated the purchase and subsequent planning work will proceed under the city’s existing legal review and will include feasibility analysis and disclosures attached to the resolution.
The council’s action authorizes staff to move forward pending those standard contingencies; staff said a substantial update is expected at the following council meeting.
