University of Findlay professor invites community to International Mother Language Day celebration

Kawamura said the observance began after protests in what is now Bangladesh and noted the event’s origins at the United Nations; the university has marked the day on campus since 2018 and has recently expanded community invitations.
Kawamura described the university’s international student population and ties to local industry, saying Japanese companies and other international businesses have chosen Findlay in part because of the city’s programs and services for families and students. Mayor Murn and other council members thanked Kawamura and encouraged attendance. Kawamura said the program will include music, dance and poetry and that roughly 40–50 countries are typically represented on campus some semesters.
