The Auburn Washburn Board of Education opened its Feb. 3 meeting with school highlights recognizing staff and students from Washburn Rural High School.
Principal Mr. Raines introduced classified-staff honoree Jessica Morrissey, praising her attention to detail, problem-solving and dependability. Morrissey received an all‑star recognition and posed for photos with family.
Kelly Younger (presenter) recognized student council sponsors Kaley Barber and Jessica Luce for leadership in organizing school-wide events including homecoming, winter formal and the Adopt-a-Family program; Younger noted student council provided gifts and gift cards to 21 families during the holiday season. Student council members came forward for photos and described lessons learned in leadership and collaboration.
Athletic director Charlie Nims introduced the student honoree, Connor Shawlove, a junior active in unified sports programs including bowling and basketball. Nims said Connor’s teammates and coaches praised his positivity and contributions; the board and audience gave him applause.
Board members then moved into the regular agenda.
