Council member Tracy Park announced the formation of the Committee for LA Recovery to coordinate rebuilding and long-term restoration in neighborhoods affected by recent wildfires, and urged residents to participate in the committee’s planning and stakeholder updates.
Park said the committee will “bring some managed oversight, structure, and supervision to the multi layered governmental response that is gonna be necessary for our disaster recovery and rebuilding process,” and that residents of Pacific Palisades will have a “seat at the table” to help shape cleanup, debris removal and rebuilding priorities.
The committee, Park said, will receive regular reports from partners including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency on toxic-hazard removal and debris cleanup, and she said the city clerk will post the committee’s agenda online when it is available.
Separately, Los Angeles City Attorney Heidi Feldstein Soto announced the launch of a joint regional fire crimes task force to prosecute crimes tied to the wildfire emergency. Feldstein Soto said the task force will partner with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Los Angeles County District Attorney and other agencies “to share intelligence on criminal activity including looting, arson, illegal drones, fraud, and price gouging.” She encouraged reporting suspected fraud to the National Center for Disaster Fraud hotline.
FEMA has set the deadline to apply for individual assistance for the Los Angeles wildfires as March 10, 2025. FEMA assistance can be requested by phone, mobile app or at disasterassistance.gov; in-person help is available at two FEMA disaster recovery centers, including one at UCLA Research Park, the briefing said.
The transcript noted state action: Gov. Gavin Newsom signed roughly $2.5 billion in relief for wildfire recovery, and two bills intended to support emergency protective measures, debris removal and post-fire hazard assessments. The briefing said local governments will receive $4 million to speed rebuilding planning, inspections and approvals, and $1 million for fire-damaged school facilities. Newsom has also issued executive orders addressing price gouging and certain protections for recovery activity.
Park said she will share committee information through CD11 channels, including the office newsletter and social media, and emphasized the committee’s goal of ensuring that rebuilding is “sustainable for future generations in LA.”
The announcements include deadlines and programs that affect who can receive federal or state recovery assistance, what costs are eligible for reimbursement, and which agencies will coordinate cleanup and enforcement.
