Council reviews Trails and Greenways master plan that positions Shelbyville to pursue state grants

City parks staff and consultant Kevin of Reagan Smith presented the completed Trails and Greenways Master Plan, a 63-page document developed with a $50,000 Tennessee Department of Health grant.
Parks Director Trevor said the grant had no local match cost and the plan puts Shelbyville in a position to apply for additional grants from programs such as the Local Development and Revitalization Fund (LDRF), the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). “Majority of those grants all of those grants that I'm aware of, require you to have a master plan in place in order to apply,” Trevor said.
Consultant Kevin told the council the plan sets a vision for a citywide pedestrian and bicycle network, improving public space for health, recreation and social interaction. A council member noted the plan document includes a draft resolution to allow the council to adopt the plan formally; Trevor and staff said they would prepare that resolution for a future meeting.
Ending: Staff asked the council to review the plan packet and return with a formal adoption by resolution at an upcoming meeting; no formal adoption vote was recorded during the study session.
