Martinez also described an educational event led by the student government with Dr. Dan Johnson she said is scheduled "through the twentieth, I believe, from 11:30 to 1;" she said the college would forward full details to the council. Martinez spoke about the importance of celebrating Black history and noted national debates over diversity, equity and inclusion work, saying it remains critical to continue the work locally.
The proclamation and the event schedule were presented as community observances and no city funding or formal council action on programming was recorded in the meeting minutes.
