Aldermen approve farmers market MOU; vendors plan weekly Thursday market starting April 24

The Carl Junction Board of Aldermen voted unanimously to approve a memorandum of understanding with the Carl Junction Farmers Market (ordinance 2505), authorizing the city administrator or mayor to execute the MOU with the nonprofit market organizers.
Market organizers told the board they plan to open Thursday, April 24, and operate weekly on Thursdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. through October at the Lakeside Pavilion in Briar Brook (Lakeside) Park. Organizers said they expect a mix of produce, dairy, meat, prepared-food vendors and periodic food trucks. The MOU outlines responsibilities for the market and the city, including use of the pavilion and shared services; the ordinance allows the city to formalize that agreement.
Aldermen discussed whether vendors would need city business licenses; the budget/finance committee later recommended an ordinance to exempt farmers-market vendors from needing separate city business licenses when operating under the market. Organizers asked for patience in the first year as they work out vendor capacity and logistics; the board expressed general support.
The ordinance passed on final reading by an 8–0 voice/hand vote and was assigned ordinance number 2505.
