After the work session on agency technology briefings, the Technology, Economic Development and Veterans Committee convened to consider two bills on Feb. 5.
Vice Chair Klva moved that House Bill 1406, concerning associate development organizations (ADOs), be reported out of committee with a do-pass recommendation. Representative Klobuch moved that House Bill 1408, establishing funding for community preservation and development authorities, be reported out of committee with a do-pass recommendation.
Committee discussion in support of HB 1406 emphasized the role of associate development organizations in supporting small businesses and local economic development. Representative Bernard praised ADOs’ outreach to small businesses and support for local economies and asked colleagues to vote yes.
Debate on HB 1408 included endorsement of funding for community development authorities but at least one member expressed reservations that stadium operators and major beneficiaries were not asked to shoulder additional fiscal responsibility; Representative Klobuch said she supported the bill but voiced that concern.
Vote results: Staff announced both measures passed the committee by voice roll call. For each bill the chair’s office recorded 12 ayes and one excused member. The committee recorded no amendments for either bill.
Outcome: Both House Bill 1406 and House Bill 1408 were reported out of the Technology, Economic Development and Veterans Committee with do-pass recommendations and will proceed in the legislative process.
