Kate Tash, director of continuous improvement and assessment, presented the district’s first statutory update on Achievement Gap Reduction (AGR) funding and reporting, describing the reporting requirements and the district’s approach to measures and interventions.
By statute the district must report AGR information twice a year, Kate said. AGR replaced an earlier program (SAGE) and requires building-level strategies selected from Department of Public Instruction guidance. Kate explained that this year the district faces an assessment transition because Act 20 introduced a new assessment; comparing fall and later measures is challenging because different diagnostic instruments are not identical.
The district will use a combination of measures: FastBridge for reading (A reading/comprehension in grades 2–3), AIMSweb diagnostic measures, and benchmark checks such as letter identification/letter sounds in kindergarten and fluency measures in first grade. AGR also requires a math component; kindergarten number identification and first-grade place-value measures will be used, with AMath assessments in grades 2–3.
Kate said principals submit templates to DPI in spring; the district has finished the recent assessment window (FastBridge and AIMSweb) with an assessment completion rate reported above 90 percent. She said EduCLIMBER is the district’s data platform where results are housed and used to build intervention and reading plans. Staff have been writing reading plans and will notify families as required.
Ending: Kate presented the AGR baseline and described next steps (spring reporting to DPI and building-level plans); she and district staff said they will continue to communicate results with families and use EduCLIMBER to track progress through the year.
