Hewitt staff: Commerce Park utility work advancing; East Swann, Briarfield street project bids due Feb. 26

City engineer Mr. Whitney updated the Hewitt City Council on Feb. 3 about several utility and street projects, saying contractors have begun final tank work at the Commerce Park water plant and that a witnessed pump test will occur this week.
"The next step after that is completed, they'll gun out," Mr. Whitney said of the prestressed tank, describing placement of a concrete topping and coating. He said contractors will then move on to site piping, generator foundations and pump slabs. He said a pump test was scheduled for the following day and Wednesday.
Whitney said he and a colleague met with representatives from Waco about Lift Station No. 4 and that Waco has proposed moving the city’s take point farther south to shorten the length of new pipe the city would need to install, depending on Waco’s Gateway Boulevard extension project proceeding to construction.
On streets and transportation, Whitney reported the East Swann and Briarfield project was out for bids and that bids were slated to be opened on Feb. 26; if the schedule holds, he said the council could consider a contractor award at its first March meeting.
The council heard the engineer’s written report; no council action was taken at the meeting.
