Coon Rapids — The City of Coon Rapids on Jan. 21 formally proclaimed Jan. 31–Feb. 9, 2025 as the 61st annual Snowflake Days and unveiled winners of the event’s button design contest.
Tiffany Fick, vice president of Coon Rapids Snowflake Days, and Diane Busta, president of the Snowflake Association, presented the schedule and announced the design contest winners at the City Council meeting. Mayor Jerry Cook read a proclamation declaring the dates and encouraging community participation.
“We are very excited to kick off our 61st annual Snowflake Days,” Tiffany Fick said, outlining events that include a community medallion hunt, the Miss Coon Rapids scholarship pageant, a Guns N’ Hoses hockey game, a chili challenge, a senior party, a community waffle breakfast and Family Fun Day at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.
The contest’s honorable mention went to Madison Schultz (Brookside Elementary), second place to Carrie Swanson (Coon Rapids High School; not present), and first place to Ethan Yang (Coon Rapids High School, grade 9). Buttons and other Snowflake Days merchandise will be available at City Hall and local businesses during the festival.
Organizers said some events require a Snowflake Days button to participate in the medallion hunt and urged participants to check the event website (coonrapidsnowflakedays.com) or the city website for daily clues and registration details. The mayor and council invited residents to attend events across the nine-day celebration.
The proclamation was presented on the council dais; no separate council vote was recorded beyond the ceremonial proclamation.
Event highlights and times cited by organizers include: medallion hunt beginning Jan. 31 with a $500 prize, a possible snow sculpture contest (cash prizes if held), Mayor’s Cup simulated golf qualifiers at Bunker Hills, the Guns N’ Hoses hockey game (tickets $10 adults, $5 children) and the senior Snowflake party at the Coon Rapids Senior Center. Organizers asked attendees to consult the website for final details and preregistration requirements.
