An applicant seeking to open a boutique fitness studio in Gateway Square described business operations to the Village Board of Trustees Feb. 4 and was told the zoning authority will consider a special-use ordinance at the next board meeting.
Kate, who will operate the studio as K Bar Hinsdale Inc. (Barre Method), described classes that use a ballet barre and small weights and said the business will offer five class types and multiple daily sessions. “We're Hinsdale residents ourselves, so we're excited to bring it to the community,” she said.
Nut graf: The proposed location is Unit 19 at 777 North York Road in Gateway Square, a shopping center with two one-story multi-tenant buildings and 246 parking spaces. Village staff said the site currently hosts restaurants, retail, tutoring and beauty salons; the code requires between 98 and 213 parking spaces depending on use, so staff concluded the center provides sufficient parking for the proposed fitness use.
Plan commission materials show a public hearing was held Jan. 8 with no residents speaking in opposition; trustees were told there are no exterior changes and a signage request, when submitted, will go before the plan commission. The applicant said she hopes to open in June, subject to construction and franchise approvals.
Ending: The board does not vote on zoning items on first reading; trustees told the applicants the special-use permit will be on the agenda at the next meeting for a final vote unless staff notifies them of additional issues.
