Paysons'area chamber honors Payson High teacher Jenny Staley; chamber outlines events

Santaquin ' Jim Roland, president and CEO of the Payson San Joaquin Chamber of Commerce, presented the chamber's Community Service Award to Jenny Staley, an English and history teacher at Payson High School, and used the council's public-forum time to outline upcoming chamber events.
Roland told the council the chamber plans several community events this year and encouraged officials to attend: a chamber gala on Thursday (6 p.m.), a family bowling and laser-tag night March 17 and the summer hometown market (proposed dates in June through September). He said the chamber is seeking ways to increase attendance at the market using grant funds for business promotion and local advertising.
Presentation to Jenny Staley
Roland introduced Jenny Staley and highlighted her work bringing actor Kevin Bacon to Payson High School for the 40th anniversary of Footloose. Roland said the event generated wide media attention and credited Staley and her students with organizing large-scale community outreach, including assembling 5,000 kits for Kevin Bacon's 6degrees.org charitable program.
Staley, who described the project as a community effort rather than a single-student-council accomplishment, told the council she was most moved by the students' reaction and the sense of connection the event produced. "The day that he came was probably the most insane day I've ever lived through," Staley said, describing students who cried when the project succeeded.
